Product Description
Nature’s Superfoods’ Organic Raw Black Maca Root hails from the high elevations of the Peruvian Andes from the Junin region, where the best-quality Maca roots are produced in Peru. Known as Peruvian Ginseng, the certified organic Black Maca roots are sun-dried (not oven-dried) and milled at low temperatures into a fine powder. Inferior Maca products are usually grown at lower elevations and are processed at higher temperatures. Many Peruvians traditionally consume this superfood to improve energy, vitality, libido and fertility.

Nutrition
Black Maca, a potent superfood, stands out for its rich nutritional contents, boasting good levels of protein, complex carbohydrates, and an array of essential nutrients including amino acids, phytonutrients, vitamins (B1, B2, C & E), and minerals (calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, iodine and iron). Additionally, it is abundant in bioactive plant compounds, exerting beneficial effects on the human body, from sex hormones and adrenals to pancreas and thyroid functions, promoting greater energy and vitality. Black Maca root balances hormones naturally without containing hormones.
Maca does not just benefit adults. In a 1997 study done in Peru, children aged 1-6, who suffered from malnourishment and anemia, showed marked improvement in their conditions upon taking maca for a period of 1 month. Maca is also known to improve mental clarity and concentration for both adults and children.
Difference Between Black Maca And Other Color Varieties
Research indicates that Black Maca showed superior efficacy compared to yellow or red maca, particularly in enhancing male fertility and libido, improving memory, and boosting physical strength and endurance.

Story/Tradition of Maca
In the 16th century, Spanish colonizers discovered the health benefits of maca root in the ancient Inca empire. The indigenous people of Peru used maca for stamina, energy, mental clarity, and fertility, even in harsh Andean environments such as high altitudes with oxygen-thin air. The Spanish were intrigued by maca's aphrodisiac properties and its ability to alleviate altitude sickness, leading them to introduce it to Europe as a natural remedy for improved fertility/libido and energy levels. It is interesting to note that for centuries, native Peruvians have given their children maca to improve their memory and learning in school.

As Raw Maca Powder, Gelatinized Maca Powder & Black Maca Powder are similar in taste and aroma, the recipes are interchangeable.
Recommended daily intake: 1/3 (one-third) to 1 teaspoon (4g). Start with half or 1 teaspoon first (test your body's response to it) and then increase daily. Take 1-2 days off a week (or 1 week off a month) so that your body will remain responsive to maca's phytonutrients.
For children, take 1/3 (one-third) teaspoon of maca powder, not necessarily on a daily basis.
Maca may not be suitable for pregnant women, as with most other herbal supplements. Those who have thyroid conditions or want to completely avoid iodine might want to avoid taking maca. If you have a sensitive digestive system, try our Organic Gelatinized Maca Powder (pre-cooked and more easily digested) instead of Raw Maca Powder.
